So, yes, if most of the honeycomb candy hadn’t dissolved into the pint it would’ve added another dimension-some needed texture, not just hot honey flavor-and that would’ve improved this pint. They left me wanting more honeycomb candy. I would note that the two crunchy honeycomb candy bits in my half of the serving were tiny. I credit Van Leeuwen for really dialing in just the right amount of spicy honey to balance out their decadent base. But I couldn’t get enough of this flavor. The vanilla base tastes sweet at first, then hot from the globs of melted hot honeycomb candy bits. Overall: Van Leeuwen’s Hot Honey is a pleasant surprise. There’s a moderate amount of the melted honeycomb throughout the pint. There’s the slightest crunch when eating them. One or two globs have a tiny candy crystal in the center. For the most part, the honeycomb candy has melted into the base, leaving only small but delightful globs of sweetness with that delayed, mild kick of heat. It’s not super-hot, but the heat accumulates as I eat more of the pint. Then, almost as an aftertaste, spiciness, a subtle burn, especially at the back of the throat. Vanilla Base: The first taste of this ice cream is a sweet, rich, dense, creamy flavor-the standard premium quality Van Leeuwen vanilla base.
